A massive manhunt is on in southern California right now, for a former Los Angeles police officer who appears to have had some kind of a psychotic breakdown, and is now on a killing spree.
33-year-old Christopher Dorner of La Palma, California became an LAPD officer in 2005, after serving in the Naval Reserves.
Then in 2008, he made a complaint against his field training officer, saying she kicked a suspect who was schizophrenic. But the police review board ruled against Dorner and he was dismissed from the force.
On Friday, his career with the Naval Reserves officially came to an end . . . which may have been what finally led him to snap.
On Sunday, he started a killing spree for revenge against the people he believed had wronged him. His first murders were a woman named Monica Quan and her fiancé, Keith Lawrence. He killed them at their home in Irvine, California.
Quan's father is a former LAPD captain, and apparently Dorner blames him for being dismissed from the department.
Then, yesterday, Dorner shot at cops in Corona and Riverside, California. He killed a 34-year-old officer, and injured a 27-year-old officer. Then he went on the run.
His truck was found yesterday morning, on fire, in Bear Mountain, California. That's about 80 miles east of L.A., and now there's a manhunt in the area to find him.
A lot of the media focus is on a manifesto he left behind. It reads like a case study in the tragedy of mental illness and violence.
And it contains chilling threats like, quote, "I will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform whether on or off duty."
Dorner, who is black, makes several references to racism in the manifesto. Quote, "The department has not changed since the Rampart and Rodney King days. It has gotten worse."
...Near the end, it breaks down into Dorner's thoughts on POP CULTURE. Seriously. Check out these quotes . . .
"It's kind of sad I won't be around to view and enjoy 'The Hangover 3'."
"Damn, gonna miss Shark Week."
"TEBOW, I really wanted to see you take charge of an offense again . . . you are not a good QB by today's standards, but you are a great football player who knows how to lead a team and WIN."
"ANTHONY BOURDAIN, you're a modern renaissance man who epitomizes the saying 'too cool for school.'"
"LARRY DAVID, I agree. 72 to 82 degrees is way too hot in a residence. 68 degrees is perfect."
"ELLEN DEGENERES, continue your excellent contribution to entertaining America and bringing the human factor to entertainment."
"CHARLIE SHEEN, you're effin awesome."
He also gives praise to several members of the news media, including ANDERSON COOPER. Yesterday evening, Anderson said he found out today that Dorner sent him a coin medallion with BULLET HOLES in it about a week ago.
